Our favourite winter walks

Tara Kingsley 25 February, 2026

Here are just a few of our favourite walks.  So many on offer around Pembrokeshire that it's hard to choose

Freshwater East - Stackpole Quay - Barafundel Beach

Setting off from Greenshutters pick up the coastel path heading West. Depending on your speed and ability, this delightuful walk can take 1.30-2 hours.  Enjoy a slice of cake and a coffee at The Boathouse Tea-room in Stackpole Quay before final climb down to Barafundel Bay.

Approx: 3.5 miles
Approx : 1 1/2 hours walk
Terrain: A few steep hills, but fairly easy walking along the coast path for most abilities.

Freshwater West Beach

Just a short drive west from Greenshutters, Freshwater West feels beautifully wild in winter.

Atlantic waves roll onto a vast stretch of sand backed by sweeping dunes. In colder months, the surfers share the space with walkers wrapped in coats, breathing in clean sea air and enjoying the rhythm of the tide. The beach is long enough for proper thinking-time — or easy silence.

Tucked into the dunes you’ll also find Dobby’s Grave, a small but much-loved stop for Harry Potter fans.

After a bracing walk, returning to the warmth of Greenshutters — sea views, hot sauna and a cosy fire — feels even better. Winter here is about space, light and the simple pleasure of being outside.

A winter walk to St. Govan's Head is a magical experience

Starting at the National Trust car park near Broadhaven you follow the coast path to reach the legendary chapel, a walk that includes some steep steps down to the building. The path is part of the longer Pembrokeshire Coast Path and offers dramatic coastal scenery, making it a memorable winter walk. You can find more detailed information on how to find it here

Bosherston Lily Ponds & Broadhaven South Beach

This circular route offers views across woodlands and lakes, providing some shelter. You can extend the walk to include Barafundle Bay and warm up afterwards at the Stackpole Inn, which has a wood-burning stove. You can find more details of the walk here
